Prototyping VI

Week 4

Fabricated Output Development

Being able to interpret our data is crucial for our project. We receive data from wearables and create unique shapes out of it. In order to read our fabricated objects, we sat down and discussed how such a measuring system could look like and most importantly, how it supposed to work. Therefore we did some research, thanks to the web, we were able to have a look at already existing systems. They inspired us and we could adapt elements and shapes, which were crucial to read the data outputs.

Time was our main protagonist in that case because we tracked the data throughout the day and somehow it needed to be displayed on the platform itself. Different layers indicated how intense the pressure sensor was pressed at a specific time.

So literally, we engraved the routine of a day on black colored MDF (Medium-density fibreboard). To ensure a pleasant readability, we filled the gravure with white gouache. Our facilities ensured a beautiful manufacture, thanks to that we were able to use not only wood as a basement but also chromium nickel steel as a supporting bar. The data shapes featured a squared whole, which was coherent to the metal bar. It allowed a quick and smooth compounding.
