Prototyping V

Week 3

Wearable Development

Our first approach for a wearable device, the input device on the shoulders, gave us a clear vision for our concept: working with pain points on the body to communicate stress. But as we spoke with other people about the project we quickly realized that everyone has another way of expressing anxiety and stress. Some rub their legs, others press their arms or chest.

This is why we decided to work on a wearable that can be worn on various parts of the body. We got inspiration from multiple sources: gym straps, iPhone holders, and fashion accessories.

At first, we created a paper-prototype and evolved the form while trying it on the shoulder, legs, belly and arms.

We then created another prototype with textiles and tried different ways of how to buckle the wearable: velcro worked good for big body parts, but didn't work on the legs!

That's why we created a lock which works everywhere, inspired by a belt.
